Ballard has an opening for an Electrical Technologist to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard’s fuel cell system products.
Responsibilities:
Prototyping, Re-Work, and repair of Cable and Harness assemblies
Prototyping, Repair, and rework of electronic circuit boards
Verification of wire harnessing through analysis and testing
Verification of electronic circuits and assemblies through analysis and testing
Failure analysis of electrical and electronic assemblies and harnessing
Support the design, packaging, and verification of electrical systems
Select and source electrical components (wires; connectors; pin; seals; heat shrink; etc.)
Troubleshooting/resolution of existing electrical components and systems
Assist in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
Prepare and/or review technical documents
Requirements:
Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
Must have at least 4 years experience in an electrical technology field
Experience with low voltage and high voltage DC systems
Experience with Circuit board design and electronic assembly
Knowledge of electrical connections and their characteristics, applications, and limitations
Knowledge of conductor sizing and ampacity calculations
Ability to crimp automotive-style connectors
Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
Electrical prototyping skills required including bread-boarding, soldering, Basic skills with mechanical tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Additional Consideration:
Experience with Altium PCB Design Software
Knowledge of fuel cell technology
Experience in automotive or mobile equipment wire harnessing
Experience working in a Cable or wire harness assembly company
Experience with EPlan, AutoCAD, or similar drafting software
Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices
Knowledge of the IPC wire harness standards such as IPC-620
Knowledge of the IPC Electronic Manufacturing standards such as IPC-610
