The Ballard Finance team has an opening for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist in a very complex and fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be meticulous and detail oriented and will handle full-cycle payroll and benefits processing for our Canadian, US and international operations. The position requires an observant personality with good problem-solving skills and a professional and customer service-oriented attitude. This role is extremely deadline driven and lies within the Finance Department with a great deal of accounting responsibilities; therefore, strong accounting and time management skills will round out the successful candidate.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operational activities relating to the bi-weekly payroll and benefits of approximately 1000 employees across multiple companies in Canada, US & abroad (expats)
Prepare monthly and adhoc journal entries; reconcile payroll and benefits related general ledger accounts
Prepare a variety of reports and remittances for government agencies (i.e. CRA, WCB)
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, board members and external agencies
Administer the group RRSP plan
Administer 401(K) plan, remittances, reconciliations
Develop and maintain internal systems and related controls, with respect to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX)
Assist on special projects as they relate to the payroll/benefits functions
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must be a team player with the ability to work independently, flexible and able to adapt quickly and under pressure in this dynamic, ever-changing environment, without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
Minimum 3 years full-cycle Canadian Payroll Experience; experience with ADP Workforce Now and ADP PCPW
Meticulous and detail oriented; must have excellent organizational, problem solving and analytical skills, and the ability to multi-task
Experience in Accounting/Finance, including GL account reconciliations
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with all audiences, with a proven ability to handle internal and external customers and questions kindly and effectively
Advanced Excel skills
Experience with US Payroll, Benefits, 401k
Canadian Payroll Association certification
Advanced knowledge of Employment Standards Act and Canada Revenue Agency Taxation Rules
Experience with Oracle or other ERP system an asset
International relocation experience an asset
Employee Share Ownership Program administration experience an asset
